Karla Sandoval-Barba s the mother of a son, Isaac Barba, who was born with a critical congenital heart defect. Isaac was born with tricuspid atresia, transposition of the great arteries, hypoplastic right heart syndrome, ventricular septal defect and atrial septal defect. Karla attended Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles, California. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Science degree in education. A teacher for sixteen years, most of her experience was in the upper grades. Four years ago she decided to teach kindergarten. Although this was something she previously feared doing, she decided she needed to accept the position to better understand how she could help Isaac once he started school. Isaac inspired Karla to learn and grow as an educator. Karla is also the mother of four other children: Cesar, Jessica, Andy and Veronica. Watching her children grow and develop, as a mother and an educator, her greatest wish has been to see them all successful.
