The story behind the shirt . . .
In 2013, former Heart to Heart with Anna Guest, Victoria Scoggins, created a campaign for Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) awareness. The Wear Purple for CHD Awareness during CHD Awareness week (the week of February 14th) started as a Facebook Event. Victoria is an adult Survivor of CHDs and she felt that wearing a purple shirt (signifying the mixing of blue and red blood that so many Survivors endure), would be a great way to set up awareness separate and apart from the wearing of red clothing so commonly associated with the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign.
In 2016, Heart Mom Amy Root felt that the CHD community needed a unifying symbol so she started the Red Balloon 4 Heart Defect campaign. It just so happens that Heart to Heart with Anna‘s logo and banner features a red heart balloon so it only seemed fitting to honor both Amy and Victoria for their campaigns to raise awareness of CHDs along with the only podcast (Internet radio show) devoted to the CHD community.
